Basic Storyline on how Showbox Stopped Working
Questions regarding is Showbox shut down November 2019, this whole drama started around mid-November when Showbox was not serving any content to its users. Many thought it would be a glitch or some bug.
But the issue wasn’t resolved and it continued on for more than a week and there were discontent and suspicion among Shobox users on whether the app has been shut down or taking time to fix the error.
Users who tried to open the app have reported they get an error message.
Here is how the message reads: “Connection error. Check your internet connection!”
This isn’t the first time, that the same particular error message has been displayed. There have also been several reports of the same issue “Connection error”.
However this time, there is no indication of whether or not the connection error is just a temporary bug or permanent.
There were several tweets thrown around that Show box has been discontinued. After a day or two, there were reports claiming that it has been up again and working fine. While some still claim, it’s not the same for them.
Official Tweets Series from ShowBox
On November 2, they issue a tweet basically saying, they are aware of the reports that it is not working for some users.
The Tweet reads:
Sorry we do see comments saying the app is not working. We think this is dependant on location, but we should have our servers up everywhere soon! Within the next days!! We apologise our stability is low recently we hope you stay with us <3
Update: Nov 10, 2019
They again follow up with the following tweet.
The Tweet reads as:

The Tweet says:
So, for the time being please use alternative you can find. We know they are not as good as our application. This is why we got targeted by anti-privacy and copyright laws.
Update: December 16, 2019
I see the comments on wanting new information on #ShowBox but as you know we have had to abandon our app for the time. This being said we are not getting much information from the dev team either! We know of some ideas of new apps, sites or re branding. Nothing set in stone!
That same day, they followed up with expressing their thanks to the users of the app.
We thank each and every follower on this account! We promise to keep working hard to ensure you get the movie services we all deserve! đŸ™‚
Thi page is still in work and will be updated if anything new happens or tweets about the app.
Well, as of now, there’s no news about the app from the developers. The future of Showbox is still a mystery and nothing is known of what they plan to do with the app.
There are many threads online from Reddit to youtube comments discussing the app. Some even claimed that they have found a working version of Showbox. But nobody knows for sure what is happening behind the scenes.
Is Showbox Down Right Now?
Yes, ShowBox is still down and although many claimed to have found a newer version of the app. But nothing for sure and proven yet.
The reason why is Showbox down is so obvious. The app is being hunted for copyright infringement and they may be facing legal issues at the moment. No one really knows what the situation really is.
Showbox is operating in a grey legal area. Most of the movies and TV Shows from other paid streaming services like Amazon Prime and Hulu are made available via the app, either by “torrents” – pirated content aggregators or peer-to-peer sharing.
Since it provides content that does not necessarily have the right to, Showbox has been bombarded by lawyers for movie and TV film distributors to shut them down. However, compared to others, it’s a bit different as it does not host any content on its own.
But still, Showbox iOS or PC is in nowhere near any clear legal area and it could be affected at any moment and time since it is not a legally apps. Although they didn’t host the content, the Showbox app still provides copyrighted material without any authorization from the copyright holders and, thus violating copyright laws.
In the past, Many unauthorized streaming platforms like Kodi and Pheonix were shut down but they eventually returned with a new brand name and logo, you know how it is. The internet is a big place and it’s hard to control.
Showbox is no different, who knows what they might come up with next.
There are many Showbox alternatives. Our recommendation would be to go for legally streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO and not download the app. Even if still Showbox comes back, they will be strictly monitored more than ever by authorities and the movie studios can see and locate your IP addresses and your COMPLETE viewing history!
Personally, I say it’s not worth the risk. But you do you at your own risk.
